Revenue is committed to actively engaging with businesses to help in identifying and understanding the potential customs implications of Brexit and how the challenges can be addressed.


As part of Revenue's trader engagement programme, we held a series of live streamed Brexit information sessions on 5 and 6 October 2020. During these sessions we provided important information to help you to get ready for trading with Great Britain from 1 January 2021.

Shake it Up!

January is a great time to give your accounts and admin a good shake up – with many businesses having a December year end, this is the time to review the accounts function as you close out your year end. Flaws and inadequacies become more apparent when completing the accounts. Perhaps as a business owner you are doing the books yourself, or this is just part of the admin function and has evolved over time. In either case, the accounts are probably taking up too much time, are not being done efficiently or effectively and you’re certainly not getting any information. As businesses expand and mature, they outgrow initial systems put in place and need a more professional appraisal of their accounts / finance function. THE 'DEBTOR' IS IN THE DETAIL– Part 1 After years in business at Cowhie Management, it never ceases to amaze us how often debtor receipts are just posted as payments on account, and not allocated to the correct invoices. This can happen for any number of reasons but usually because there is no remittance advice issued or there are no details on the bank. We can’t stress enough how important it is to find out what your clients / customers are paying. If they have not given you a payment / remittance advice, then ask them what they are paying. This will save so much time, money, and frustration in the long run. It can so easily go on the long finger and before you know it the account is a mess and trying to get the money in becomes much more difficult. #CowhieManagementServices #creditcontrol

Happy Anniversary to us!

This December marks 22 years of my husband Paul and me being in business together! I was looking at the calendar and remembered in December 1998, we took that brave decision after only 4 months of marriage to work together. 22 years later, we are still married and still in business together! What an incredible journey it has been.  Paul a qualified management accountant, saw a gap in the market for quality, accurate & timely book-keeping, and informative management accounts for small and medium businesses. So he started his management accounting practice, Cowhie Management Services, back in 1995. In those days, outsourcing your book-keeping / payroll and management accounts were unheard of. I’m an FCCA, I qualified in Practice and also spent two years in the Financial services sector. Our combined but different experience and qualifications really complemented each other and worked so well for the business and our marriage! Paul often jokes that the best business decision he ever made was to marry an accountant!
